Sistr - Killer Tips

How do you get started with digital marketing?

REFLECT - LISTEN - HEAR - CONSIDER - THINK - CONTEMPLATE - COGITATE - MARINADE - UNDERSTAND - PAUSE - ENGAGE —- AND ONLY THEN ACT OR SPEAK - don’t shoot from the hip or at least LEARN not to

  • Understand that digital marketing is simply a BUZZ PHRASE. (Digital marketing is the use of the Internet to reach consumers. Digital is a crazy broad field and fairly irrelevant in that everything has a digital component because the systems collect or distribute DATA, it includes attracting customers via email, content marketing, search platforms, social media, and more.)

  • More important is to start by realising that marketing is the critical word. IT IS LIFE OR DEATH FOR A BRAND - an individual, a product or a business. MARKETING IS PROMOTING MY BUSINESS WHEN I'M NOT THERE

  • FIRST KNOW WHO YOU ARE - I can send you a few KILLER QUESTIONS to help you discover that but you have to WORK HARD TO DEFINE YOURSELF - how you appear - the words you use - the tone of voice.

  • You can never make a first impression twice

  • BE CONSISTENT - people will remember your DISCIPLINE and relevance

  • DIGITAL IS IMPORTANT because you can quickly apply your CONTENT across all DIGITAL PLATFORMS - Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Clubhouse - BE OUT THERE AND FIND THE ONES THAT WORK FOR YOU. find the few communication platforms that feel comfortable for you)

REFLECT - LISTEN - HEAR - CONSIDER - THINK - CONTEMPLATE - COGITATE - UNDERSTAND - PAUSE - ENGAGE —- AND ONLY THEN ACT OR SPEAK

What social can do for you and how to use it to best effect

  • WRITE, WRITE WRITE - AND THEN DO MORE WRITING - Writing helps everything - read it out loud, send it to friends - it will help you think, it will help you realise what you have missed out and what doesn’t work and it will help you rehearse what really matters. Everything you need to survive, grow and win in marketing you and your business.

  • CREATE YOUR GROOVE - Each message is different for each platform. Imagine your TARGET AUDIENCE - and ask yourself why would anyone listen to you? And then make sure you are sharing interesting content WITH AN OPINION - everyone shares stuff that others have no time to read - HELP THEM BY PULLING OUT THE INSIGHT - the WHY SOMEONE ELSE SHOULD CARE.

  • BE MORE CURIOUS, CREATIVE AND INSPIRING- WIDEN THE FRAME - Are you speaking into an echo-chamber - the same message to the same audience about the same thing? Or are you trying to look outside of that space? In your space work out how to do that with so much information out there?

  • ALWAYS AUTHENTIC - people will soon figure out when you are not. Creating a presence isn’t around selling yourself all the time - be FUBI - (Torie Chilcott from Paddle Consulting) FUNNY, USEFUL, BEAUTIFUL & INSPIRING  Don’t use social media to impress people, use it to impact people. Sharing is Caring. Stay conscious of ‘fake news’ and know what you’re sharing, make sure it has a good URL or link - that’s why I often won’t open or share anything sent to me via Facebook - I will always ‘open on browser’ to make sure it is a secure URL before sharing anything.

REFLECT - LISTEN - HEAR - CONSIDER - THINK - CONTEMPLATE - COGITATE - UNDERSTAND - PAUSE - ENGAGE —- AND ONLY THEN ACT OR SPEAK

CREATE A WORKFLOW

  • Be strict with your time - spend 1 hour each day DURING your most productive time - whether it be 7-8 am or 12-1 am - SCAN THE HORIZONS

  • IDENTIFY MARKETS, TYPES A D STYLES OF PEOPLE THAT FEEL LIKE YOUR TRIBE - also try and understand those people you would never ordinarily follow - follow their thread, their points of view, their diverse thinking and sharing YOU WILL BE SURPRISED.

  • TRY TO AUTOMATE SERENDIPITY- LUNCH CLUB IS WORTH TRYING AS IT DOES AN AMAZING JOB OF FINDING YOU LIKE-MINDED SOULS OR CHALLENGERS - if I’m working on something specific, I REVISIT my searches and then BANG - a connection is made that is useful & relevant.

  • ALTHOUGH it’s HARD ALWAYS respond to people - AVOID ALL THE ‘sales’ messages BUT IDENTIFY WHEN THERE IS AN INTERESTING HUMAN on the other side - be gracious and be honest with your communication - say no thank you and wish them well… take care.

  • Try not to ignore people - if you’re going to be on social media then you need to act in a RESPECTFUL AND SOCIAL way - be kind, be curious, be gracious, even when someone has an alternative point of view - don’t argue or try to change someone’s belief THROUGH TEXT MESSAGES IT DOESN'T WORK - we are all different, we are the sum of all our experiences - so get comfortable being open-minded & open-hearted.

Use social media to learn…. “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. ” …

  • When you have created a ‘social’ campaign - which can be as simple as an Unsplash picture FREE TO USE BUT LEAVE A CREDIT FOR THEM usage fees TRIAL, TEST, REARRANGE AND LEARN what works & what does not

  • DIGITAL ALLOWS FOR MEASUREMENT - measurement will be key in finding the specific audience & what headline works or what visual works? If it isn’t working, then change it - digital allows you to do it immediately and seamlessly.

  • Be aware of Screen Time for yourself - don’t stay on it the whole time - if it doesn’t feel comfortable to engage in this way - then find someone who does enjoy it - either within your company or people from your local college or university who feel comfortable in that space.

  • Most importantly - you need to stay consistent - not days, not months - but the payback comes from years of engaging in your communities and growing them. It doesn’t happen overnight.

REFLECT - LISTEN - HEAR - CONSIDER - THINK - CONTEMPLATE - COGITATE - UNDERSTAND - PAUSE - ENGAGE —- AND ONLY THEN ACT OR SPEAK

The PR strategies you must have in place right from the start

It is never easy to spot something that is going to really resonate with someone - look at Sir Tom - he touched us all, we couldn’t help but share… but then we will share something totally different.. Tiktok dances etc - Don’t look to have something ‘go viral’ - to this day I have never understood why some of my posts are seen by 20,000 people or 500 people?

Don’t worry or feel someone is judging you or you don’t have anything interesting to say - we all do, believe in yourself and be unapologetically yourself - you have the ability to use your voice - for the power of good
